In Lindsay Lohan's previous court appearances, her wardrobe choices have been called everything from inappropriate to tasteful. On Friday she arrived at a preliminary hearing dressed conservatively.

The New Orleans / NOLA Zephyrs split the series against the Nashville Sounds, losing 9-1 and dropping their second consecutive game on Friday night at Zephyr Field.

The Sounds exploded for seven runs in the second inninng, where the Sounds doubled five times, including two from Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Corey Hart, who is on a rehabilitation stint.

The NOLA Zephyrs finally got on the board in the fifth when Ryan Klosterman led off the inning with a double, followed up by a Vinny Rottino single, which extended his hit streak to four games.

Sounds starter Amaury Rivas (3-1) shut down the NOLA Z's for seven innings, giving up one run on four strikeouts, earning the victory.

Elih Villanueva (1-2) went five innings, giving up seven runs - three earned - on seven hits.

The Zephyrs return to Zephyr Field next Thursday night, when they welcome the Oklahoma City RedHawks to town for a four-game series. The NOLA Zephyrs return to action tomorrow night as the team travels to Albuquerque for a four-game set. (Source)

Carrie Underwood has made waves for her first movie role in the family-friendly "Soul Surfer," which is based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who didn't let losing an arm in a shark attack stop her from doing what she loves. In the movie Underwood plays a youth counselor that helps Bethany get her life back on track. The very humble Carrie Underwood admits that she knows her debut movie role won't win her an Oscar, which wasn't the case for another "American Idol" alum.

Speaking of Broadway shows, after performing in front of millions for "American Idol," it's not surprising that many former contestants are so comfortable onstage in front of a relatively small Broadway crowd: Fantasia scored a part in "The Color Purple;" Diana DeGarmo landed the role of Penny Pingleton in "Hairspray;" Frenchie Davis starred in "Rent;" and Josh Strickland got in touch with his wild side as the title character in "Tarzan." He now appears on the reality series "Holly's World."

Carrie Underwood hasn't ventured to the Broadway stage yet, but wherever she decides to try to take her talents to next, she can take comfort in knowing that it can't be as big of a disaster as "From Justin to Kelly." (Reference)

Volunteers will meet from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 30, at St. Sava Church, 3457 Black Road, Joliet. The volunteer efforts will benefit the native plants, animals and the community. Plainfield Public Library: The Plainfield Public Library will celebrate Earth Day with a host of activities for the family. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 22, families can explore how worms work, make treasure from trash, add a book leaf to the Go Green Tree and see what floats or sinks at the “Four Elements Science Stations.” Attendees can also participate in the Recycling Raffle by bringing old batteries, flags, eyeglasses, cell phones and ink cartridges to the lower-level lobby.

Naperville Park District: The Naperville Park District is looking for volunteers to make the community a better place to live by sprucing up local parks. Volunteers are needed through Sunday, April 24, to pick up litter, weed and remove fallen twigs from one of 16 local parks. Scott Parker has been awarded the prestigious Footballer of the Year award for 2011 by the Football Writers' Association, becoming only the second West Ham player to be honoured after the great Bobby Moore.

Parker took the award ahead of Tottenham star Gareth Bale, who last week was named as the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year, and will receive his award at a dinner at the Lancaster London Hotel on May 12.

The award is recognition for the excellent form that Scott Parker has displayed despite playing for a team in West Ham that has battled against relegation all season. The midfielder has also enjoyed a resurgence in his international prospects with England of late.

The motto for the next generation of extreme-climbers who scale the forbidding peaks of Yosemite National Park in California may as well be this: Mountaineering tools are for wusses. So-called free-climbers pit themselves against the swooping, protruding faces of Yosemite using little more than their own chalked-hands-on-rock agility.

This is not to say that free-climbers scorn all amenities. As they pitch tents alongside a mountain face, suspended thousands of feet above the ground, they sip coffee from their own French presses, and fiddle with their iPhones, which run on solar-powered chargers. Say whatever you will about the Yosemite crew's death-defying stunts: At this elevation, they probably get pretty good cell reception.

Actress Amy Smart has landed herself a hunky carpenter hubby-to-be!

The Just Friends actress, Amy Smart 35, is engaged to HGTV's Carter Oosterhouse, she told Us Weekly at an Earth Lovers in Celebration of Earth Day event in New York on Thursday.

Calling Oosterhouse, 34, her "fiance," Smart told the engagement is "very new" and "very exciting."

The stars met by chance at a green-charity event in November 2010. Oosterhouse first rose to fame as a carpenter on TLC's Trading Spaces and has hosted the HGTV shows Carter Can and Red Hot & Green. Smart, who also starred in The Butterfly Effect, ended her 15-year-relationship with actor Branden Williams last year. [Reference]
